Chronic hypertension happens when a woman has high blood pressure before she gets pregnant. It’s also different from preeclampsia and eclampsia. WebThe diagnosis of chronic hypertension may not be made until after delivery, when blood pressure fails to normalize. In approximately 10%–25% of the cases, gestational hypertension progresses to preeclampsia. In cases of severe gestational hypertension, the risk for adverse outcomes is similar to those of preeclampsia.
